Andrea Bajc Obituary

Andrea “Andy” Bajc, 84, of Davenport, IA., passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, at his home. Cremation has been accorded. Memorials are to be determined.

Andrea was born December 17th, 1935 in Podkraj, Italy. During WWII, he became separated from his family and was raised in a State Boarding School in Italy. Andrea attended school in Italy thru the 5th grade which would be comparable to the 8th grade in the U.S.. He met his future wife, Emilia “Emily” Crevatin, before immigrating to the United States; however, they were not married until reuniting in the United States years later. They both were in one of the last groups to pass thru Ellis Island in 1952. After being separated for nearly 3 years, Andrea and Emily were reunited and married on June 25th, 1955 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Davenport, IA. She died in 2014.

Andrea and Emily have three children, Vera Ann McCants of Davenport, Iowa, Andrew (Chris) Bajc of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Mike (Diane) Bajc of Matherville, Illinois. They have 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Andrea was a beautiful human being. He was strict but for all the right reasons. He spent nearly 40 years of his life remodeling and renting out apartments/homes in the Davenport/Bettendorf area. Andrea cared about his tenants, their well-being, and was always giving them the benefit of the doubt. Andrea could build or repair anything and he learned it all on his own. In the most recent years, after his wife’s passing, he and his loyal companion, Alfie (poodle), would go from property to property picking up rent or attending to the tenants needs. Andrea wouldn’t travel far without Alfie by his side.

Andrea was passionate about sports! He loved everything about the Iowa Hawkeyes. He could share stories of coaches, games, or players that happened years ago. He was notorious for betting a quarter (or two) on a Hawkeye win. Andrea rarely missed an athletic event of his grandchildren’s or great grandchildren’s. He’d travel near and far to attend these events and if you’d look in the stands, there he was with popcorn in hand and a grin that took up his whole face. Andrea was easily known as “everyone’s Grandpa” because he was always present.

Together, Andrea and his wife, enjoyed camping and fishing. Their favorite camping spot was in Elkader, IA where they have built many lasting memories with their family. Andrea taught all of his grandchildren how to fish the Turkey River. He believed that if you are going to fish, you must know how to bait the hook, catch them and clean them! Their hobbies also included bowling, dancing and meeting friends for dinner.

The memories Andrea has made with his family will forever be cherished. His dedication, determination, and passion for life were unparalleled. There is peace knowing he has once again been reunited with his forever love, Emily.

Andrea was preceded in death by his wife and son-in-law (Roger McCants).
