Anna (Dunham) Sparkman Obituary

Anna Elizabeth Dunham Sparkman passed away March 14, 2024 at Silver Cross Nursing Center at Friendship Manor, Rock Island, Illinois. She was one of eleven children born in Bono, Arkansas to Winfred and Nellie Dunham on February 28, 1931. She moved from Jonesboro, Arkansas to Illinois in 1952 and raised her eight children, Barb, Jim, Nancy, Regina, Rob, Ron, Tim and Tom.

Anna was a homemaker, known for her cooking and baking skills, always by scratch, of course! She became an excellent seamstress, sewing clothes for her growing family. Using the same matching fabric she would make dresses for her girls and shirts for her boys. She always kept a large garden with beautiful flowers and vegetables. Anyone expecting a baby would get a handmade crocheted blanket.

She was Grandma Ann to almost everyone she knew, even those around the neighborhood who she visited on her daily walks. She was Grannie Annie, Aunt Anna, Anna Banana to the nursing staff and Sis to her sisters. To her many friends throughout her 93 years she was simply Ann.

She was a proud member of Grace Presbyterian Church, the former South Park Presbyterian Church for nearly 35 years. One of her fondest memories was in 2011 when she went on a tour of the Holy Lands with her church friends.

She is survived by her sister, Loeta Friend of Bolivar, Missouri, her children Nancy Inskeep of Gurnee, Illinois, Regina Whitcomb (James), Ronald, Timothy (Lisa), and Thomas (Holly), all of Rock Island, Illinois and son-in-law Robert Green of Marietta, Georgia. She had many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren who are spread out from coast to coast, even as far away as Australia.

Preceding her in death besides her parents, are her siblings Charles, Donald, Wilma, Vera, Judy, Ruth, Evelyn, Winfred Jr, and Wayne. Also preceding her in death are her sons James and Robert, daughter Barbara, grandsons Andrew Sparkman, Nathaniel Dean Inskeep, and Nathaniel Todd Inskeep.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the loving care given to our mother at Silver Cross and the staff at Heartland Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Silver Cross Nursing Center at Friendship Manor in Anna’s name.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, with visitation to be held from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Burial will be on Monday, March 25, 2024 in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island.
