Beulah Mae Venable, 99, of Reynolds, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Reynolds United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2023, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 801 W. Edgington Street, Reynolds. Burial will be in Reynolds Cemetery.
Beulah was born October 19, 1923, in Edgington Township. She was the daughter of Ernest and Retta (Whitney) Mueller. She graduated from Reynolds High School and Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught school in rural one room schools, last teaching in the Rockridge School District at Illinois City Grade School. She married Melvin Venable on June 22, 1955, in the Reynolds United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Blackhawk Unit of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
For 20 years she also wrote a column for the Aledo Times Record newspaper with the weekly news of the Reynolds area. Beulah loved attending her grandchildren’s games, traveling to college basketball games and college baseball games to cheer them on. Recently, she attended her great-grandson’s baseball game and was very excited to be able to say she was on her third generation of being a fan.
She is survived by her 2 children; Frank (Sandra) Venable, and Susan (Melvin) Blaser. She had two grandsons, Tucker (Anna) Blaser and Tyson (Holley) Blaser; and one step-granddaughter, Chelsy (Nate) Cady. She has 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Retta Mueller; her husband, Melvin Venable; her sister, Doris Thomason; and her brother, Virgil Mueller.
