Calvin (Cal) Carpenter Obituary

Calvin (Cal) Carpenter, age 69, of Rock Island, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 22, 2024, while at home surrounded by his wife and loving family members.

Cal was born October 4, 1954, to Theodore and Marlene Carpenter at St. Francis Hospital in Rock Island, IL 61201. As a child, his family moved to Minneapolis, MN where he was enrolled in the Minneapolis School District.

He moved from Minnesota to Rock Island, IL in his early 20’s. Cal was saved in 1978 and became a member of Pentecostal Deliverance Church (now Harvest Time Family Worship Center) 1518 Filmore Street in Davenport, IA under the leadership of Apostle James E. Lee. He was united in marriage to Kattie Carpenter on September 29, 1980, in Davenport. His church activities included, but were not limited to the Church Choir, Armor Bearer to his pastor of many years, Minister, Treasury Dept, and a host of other roles.

Some people only knew the surface of Calvin, but there was much more to him.

Cal made sure to encourage and support ANY young person in their academic journey. It could be kindergarten, sixth grade, high school, or college graduation. Even an academic ceremony or sporting event. No matter what it was, he was going to be there to support the young people. He was big on making sure that youngsters (as he called them) always had change in their pockets. He hoped this would keep them from having to rob or steal.

He was a generous man who NEVER hesitated to help or be there for ANYONE. A man who would give you the shirt off his back regardless of if he had to go without or not.

Cal was a hardworking man who always kept a job to provide for his family. Mayflower Moving Company, Custodian for the Rock Island School District, HON Industries, and LeClaire Manufacturing to name a few.

After he retired in 2012, he enjoyed working alongside his dear friend of many years, Donnie Pearson as an auto mechanic.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball. He truly enjoyed being with his family, family functions, and traveling.  Especially to Mississippi to visit his extended family, The Pearsons. You couldn’t tell him that he was not part of that family. He loved going to church, quoting scriptures, and hearing the word of God. He always had a joke, story, or something to make you laugh. You would ALWAYS hear him laughing. He was known for his famous Chicken Tacos. If you never had one, you were missing out. He would a cookie sheet full of them for church events and even if people just asked for them. One thing Cal was going to do was feed you.

Cal leaves the following loved ones to cherish his memories - his loving wife of 43 years, Kattie Carpenter; Step-Daughter, Annett Watson of Des Moines, IA; Step-Grandson, Dayvion Thompson of Houston, TX; sister, Lillian Carpenter of Atlanta, GA; 3 brothers, Richard (Connie) Carpenter of Minneapolis, MN; David (Jaqueline) Carpenter of Moline, IL; and Vernon Carpenter of Davenport, IA.
A large host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces/nephews, and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers Kenny Carpenter Sr. and Theodore Carpenter Jr., and sister Donna Jean.
