Charleen Enstrom, 90, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the Overlook Village, Moline. Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be at 2 pm on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 1 - 2 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made in care of the American Association of University Women.
Charleen was born in Whitewright, Texas on November 1, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Fannie Mae Stuteville. She grew up in Van Alstyne, Texas. She worked in her father’s grocery store and was a basketball player and cheerleader at Van Alstyne High. She graduated from high school and attended North Texas State Teachers College, later named North Texas State University. She graduated with a degree in marketing and worked at Neiman-Marcus in downtown Dallas.
Charleen married Kenneth Enstrom on June 12, 1953 in Van Alstyne at the First Baptist Church. They moved north to Rock Island and she worked as a teacher at Port Byron and United Township High Schools, teaching typing and short hand. She later was a counselor at United Township. She became a homemaker to raise her three sons.
Charleen was a lifetime member of the American Association of University Women. Active in book clubs, PTA, Rock Island Clean and Beautiful and the First Baptist Church in Rock Island. She enjoyed traveling and cruising.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 67 years, Kenneth Enstrom; sons, Michael (Jennifer) Enstrom, Rock Island, Curtis (Lisa Blanchar) Enstrom, Peachtree City, Georgia and David (Patty) Enstrom, Tomball, Texas; grandchildren, Laurel, Porter, Blake and Brady; brother, Billy Joe Stuteville, Texas; sister, Patty Ann Gariepy, Texas; and exchange student, Vincent Sablan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Kenneth Lindberg Stuteville and sister, Laura Mae Brown.
