Cora Ann Schafman, 90, of Milan, died Thursday, January 11, 2024 at UnityPoint Health – Trinity, Rock Island. A funeral service will be 10 am Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 13228 140th Street West, Taylor Ridge, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday, January 19, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan. Burial will take place at Chapel Grove Cemetery, Bowling Township, Illinois. Memorials may be made in care of Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Taylor Ridge.
Cora was born in Rockford, Illinois on June 24, 1933, a daughter of George and Mabel Blair Jacobson. She was baptized in April of 1945.
Cora graduated from East Rockford High School in 1951 and Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois in 1955. Her teaching years were at Lincoln Jr. High and Mount Morris, Illinois.
Cora married Richard L. Schafman on August 16, 1958 in Rockford, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 9, 1993.
Cora was a member of the Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she had been a deacon. In former years she was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island, where she served as president and vice president of their church council, president of the Lutheran Brotherhood Board, Branch 8604 and many years as president of the St. James WELCA organization. She also served as vice president and president of Indian Bluff Women’s Golf Club.
Cora volunteered at Trinity Medical Health Center in the gift shop. Her hobbies and interests included cross stitching, gardening, attending bible studies and traveling. She loved spending time with her family and especially adored her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Bradley A. (Andrea) Schafman, Milan, Bruce R. (Lisa) Schafman, Grandbury, Texas, Cynthia L. (Kevin) Oak, Taylor Ridge, Christine L. (Richard) Kilcoin, Milan and Lisa K. (Scott) Nelson, Milan; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one step-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters, Hazel Hanford, Audrey Jacobson and Margaret Johnson and brother, George Jacobson.
