David K Burkhead

David K. Burkhead, 87, Rock Island, IL passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024 at his home with family by his side. There will be a visitation from 10-11:00 AM with a funeral service following at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan.  Private inurnment at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Dave was born on May 9, 1936 to Fred and Dorothy (Timm) Burkhead in Rock Island. After high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force. After being honorably discharged on September 16, 1962 he returned to the Quad Cities.

Dave was united in marriage to Joan Van Den Hende on February 13, 1960 in Rock Island where they made their home and raised their five children.

Dave spent his career as a water treatment operator, first for the City of Rock Island and then, the Rock Island Arsenal, where he worked until his retirement.

Dave was a talented woodworker and was always working on some sort of project at his house. He was a sports fan who loved bowling, playing softball, and attending all sporting events of his kids and grandkids.

Dave is survived by his children, Rick Burkhead, Bob (Mary) Burkhead, Linda (Mike) Guay, Rita Entsminger, Pamela (Rich) Hall; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Joan Hancks.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; brothers, Edward, Jerome, and Ralph Burkhead; and grandson, Alyn Hall.
