Denton Maurice Douglas, 80, of Rock Island, died Saturday, November 13, 2021 at home. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday, November 22, 2021 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday, November 21, 2021 from 2-4 pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made in care of the University of Iowa Cancer Center Extension, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Denton was born in Alton, Illinois on May 16, 1941, a son of John and Thelma Douglas Caldwell. Denton was a graduate of Rock Island High School, class of 1959. He later attended Black Hawk Community College. Denton married Rita Grady on May 14, 2001 in Miami, Florida.
Denton was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the 2040th Communications Squadron from 1961 – 1965. He worked 34 years for ALCOA and retired as a supervisor in 1996.
Denton was an avid car enthusiast. He enjoyed buying and collecting antique cars. He enjoyed traveling and absolutely loved spending time with his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rita Douglas, Rock Island; daughters, Tonya L. (Quincy) Davis, Rock Island and Melissa (Engerson II) Lambert, Duarte, Calif.; step-son, James (Theresa) Jones Jr., Rock Island; grandchildren, Tekara Douglas, Myles Davis, Naomi Lambert, James “Bryce” Jones, Jason Jones and Tacianna McKnight; great-granddaughter, Emerie McNeal; and sister, Geraldine Douglas Cooper, Ankeny, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Mort Caldwell.
