Donald R Wolverton

Donald R. Wolverton, 83, Rock Island, IL passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 at his home under the care of hospice and with his wife by his side. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 PM on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Funeral at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at the funeral home. It will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/935932099/0e76f0e63c  Burial at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or American Diabetes Association.

Don was born July 10, 1940 to William and Jean (Covey) Wolverton in Rock Island. He graduated from Rocky and then attended the University of Illinois. Don started his career as a large caliber ammunition specialist at the Arsenal where he would meet his future wife, Janet Lease. They were married on May 30, 1981 in Davenport. The couple then moved to Oxnard, CA where he worked for the US Navy for over 30 years. Upon his retirement he returned to the Quad Cities.

Don was a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years. He was an avid sports fan, who rooted for the Cubs and Bears, and was a huge Illini supporter. He also coached kids’ softball. Don really enjoyed traveling the world. He will be remembered as a man who loved God, his country, and his family.

He is survived by his wife, Janet and their beloved dog, Tucker; sons, Douglas (Janet) Wolverton, Robert Wolverton, and David Wolverton; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, including a special great-granddaughter, Alina Grace; his sister, Pat Parker; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
