Donna Schoeck Obituary

Donna M. Schoeck, 79, of Milan died Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at UnityPoint Health—Trinity Rock Island.  A private family funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of Bethany for Children and Families, Moline, and the Quad Cities Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Donna was born on October 17, 1941, in Mobridge, South Dakota, a daughter of Harley and Fern Fansler Overseth.  She married Clyde C. Schoeck in August 1960 in Mobridge, South Dakota.  He preceded her in death on June 1, 2020.

Donna and her family moved to Rock Island from South Dakota in 1967 and quickly developed deep roots in the community.  Donna served on various boards—including the Ballet Quad Cities, the Festival of Trees, Bethany for Children and Families, and Marriage and Family Counseling—and was a Welcome Wagon Hostess in the 1970s.  She also enjoyed serving the PTA in various capacities.

Donna wore many hats during her working career, which included working at the drive-in movie theater and as a bookkeeper at a bank in South Dakota; as a preschool tester for the Black Hawk Area Special Education District, East Moline; as a sales representative for The Vernon Company, Newton, Iowa; as a school nurse; and as a homemaker.

Donna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, for more than 50 years and began the program to bring elderly members to church.  She served Trinity in many ways, including on the member care committee.

Donna was one of a kind, a true original, and a born story-teller; her high school senior yearbook said she talked in Technicolor.  People were drawn to her sense of fun and spunk, and she loved to laugh.  She was a voracious reader and a loyal member of the “Whine and Wine Club” with her closest friends.  She enjoyed traveling, making friends wherever she went and favoring Hawaii.  She was known as Clyde’s “princess” and a lover of life, family, and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jodi (Lori Bergmann) Schoeck, Lake in the Hills, Illinois, and James (Cynthia) Schoeck, Rock Island; her grandchildren, Austin (Abigail), Jacob, and Lily Schoeck; and her sister, Virginia Hager, Mobridge, South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Robert Overseth; and twin sister, Diann Storrs.
