Donna Mae Spencer

Donna Mae Spencer, 91, of East Moline, formerly of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Hope Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, East Moline. Cremation rites have been accorded. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Nurses Association, PO Box 636, Manteno, IL 60950-0636.

Donna was born November 17, 1930, in Henry County, Illinois, a daughter of Benhard C. and Nellie Mae (Johnson) Johnson. She graduated from Orion High School and the Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses. Donna married Myron G. Spencer on October 4, 1952, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1971. Donna was a registered nurse at the Moline Lutheran Hospital for 49 years, retiring in December 2000. She was also a former parish nurse at St. James Lutheran Church and 15th Avenue Christian Church, both in Rock Island. Donna was a member of the American Nurses Association, Illinois Nurses Association, and the Quad Cities Camera Club. She enjoyed photography, writing, watercolors, crafts, genealogy, cooking, and baking.

Those left to cherish Donna’s memory include her daughter, Julie (Paul) Chretien, Washington, PA; siblings, Ronald (Fern) Johnson, Dorothy (Richard) Clark, and Benhard Johnson; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Denby Spencer Turnbull; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Joel Kendel Spencer; infant daughter; and sister-in-law, Margaret Zobrist Johnson.
