Dorothy Meyer, 86, of Rock Island, formerly of Moline, passed away peacefully in her home  surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.  A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 2106 7th Ave., Rock Island, where visitation will be an hour prior to service time.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of YouthHope, Moline.

She was born in Kewanee to Alfred and Frances Engels. Dorothy graduated salutatorian from Manlius Township High School and attended Western Illinois University.  She moved to the Quad Cities and worked at Bendix, Montgomery Elevator, William F. Bernbrock Architects and retired as office manager at Ken-Tronics.

Dorothy was a member of South Park Presbyterian Church and supported many local organizations including WQPT, IPTV, Quad City Music Guild, Rock Island Library, Youth Hope, Healing Heroes and Georgetown University Hospital.

She was an avid reader who loved gardening, her church and her lasting friendships.

She is survived by her daughter Debra Stokes, Lincolnville, Maine; grandchildren Jeffrey and Jennifer Stokes, San Ysidro, Calif.; sisters Joyce (Clint) Bassemier, Mariposa, Calif. and Jane (Larry) Edwards, Fort Myers, Fla.; daughter-in-law Margo Stokes, San Ysidro, Calif.; sister-in-law, Mary Engels, Annawan; dear friend Gail Etheridge, Rock Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Jeffrey Stokes; and brother, Robert Engels.
