It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Newnham, 84, of Milan, who peacefully departed this world on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Silver Cross Pavilion at Friendship Manor in Rock Island surrounded by family. Dorothy was born on July 28, 1941, in Rockford, Illinois, to Jay and Clella Brown Chance. On March 31, 1962, she married Russell C. Newnham, in Moline, Illinois. They shared countless cherished moments until his passing on November 24, 2019. A devoted homemaker, Dorothy poured her heart into raising her children and later pursued her passion for sewing as a seamstress for Von Maur. Her life was a testament to love, hospitality, and nurturing spirit. Dorothy was an active member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island, and always ensured that everyone was welcomed and well-fed at her table. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Cheryl (Shawn) Aken of DeKalb, IL; Jeanne (Bill) Lewis of Milan, IL; and Lisa (Jon Pape) Burton of Rock Island, IL; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Blake, Seth, Haley, Matthew, and Emily; and great-grandchildren, Caroline and Bennett Lewis. Dorothy is also survived by her dear siblings, Margaret Martin, Doris Roesner, and Don Chance. A service celebrating Dorothy's remarkable life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 10 am at Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island. Visitation will take place the day before, Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 201 E. 4th Avenue in Milan. She will be laid to rest in the peaceful surroundings of Chapel Grove Cemetery in Taylor Ridge. Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, her son, Jason Newnham, and eleven siblings, whose memories remain a cherished part of her legacy.
