Elmer LeRoy Kenney, 83, Davenport, IA passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022 in Port Byron, IL at his daughter’s home surrounded by family and under the care of hospice. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 AM with a funeral service at 11 AM on Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Island. Burial will be at the Clarence Cemetery in Clarence, IA. Memorials may be made to the family.
Elmer was born on September 23, 1938 to Paul and Dora (Yeater) Kenney in Iowa City, IA. Following his graduation from Clarence High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany.
On March 26, 1977 he was united in marriage to Mary Heather. The couple made their home in Davenport and enjoyed bowling on leagues together.
Elmer worked as a truck driver for the Rock Island Post Office and had his own company, Kenney Trucking. He then worked for Straight Shots until his retirement.
Even after retirement, he liked to stay busy and was always working on projects. Most recently, he built a screened porch on his house. He enjoyed having coffee with his coffee club every morning and cherished the time he spent with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Dale and James; daughter, Kari (Max) Porter; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents; nine siblings; and daughter, Beth Ann Langfeldt.
