Gary "Rocketman" Moore Obituary

Gary Lee (Rocketman) Moore was born March 17, 1948 in Rock Island Illinois son of Gail Moore & Hazel (Barber) Moore.  Gary was the 1st born child to this family.

Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, with visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to services. Inurnment with military honors presented by the U.S. Navy and V.V.A. Chapter 299 will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2020 at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Those attending the inurnment are to meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. 

Gary received his formal education and attended public schools in the Rock Island School District #41 graduating with a Diploma in 1966.  Gary was an excellent football & baseball player which landed him scholarships to college.  Gary enlisted in the military in 1967 & served in the US Navy for 23 years.  During his stint he served as a life coach & mentor to many fellow shipmates while at sea and serving in the Vietnam War.  After retiring from the military Gary went on to work as the security guard at Rocky and assistant baseball coach.  Gary's interest & hobbies were fishing, camping, boxing, Sci-Fi & History movies & channels, reading & even comedy.  

Gary united in matrimony to Ivy McGlone 43 years ago on March 27, 1981.  They were blessed to parent Kimberly McGlone, Tiwala Moore & Gail Moore.

After years of enduring his illness god saw fit to call Gary Moore from his earthly life to his heavenly home.  Gary departed this life on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Manor Care Health Services.  He was preceded in death by his father Gail Moore and Special Uncle LaVance Moore.  Gary leaves to cherish his memories & remember his inspirations; his wife Ivy Moore, his daughters Kim McGlone, Tiwala Moore, Gail Moore; his mother Hazel Lee Moore; his brothers Carey Darnell Moore, Carl Moore & his sister Gina Davis; his grandchildren Malik Moore, Idris Thomas, Isaiah Moore; his nephews Anthony Ricks, Carey Darnell Robinson; his nieces Dannette Robinson, Danielle Brown, Michelle Moore-Williams & a host of special relatives & friends.
