George Howard Nesbitt Sr., 77, of New Windsor, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at home.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. A celebration of life gathering will be held at the Rock Island Moose Lodge, 4410 9th St, following the visitation. Memorials may be left in George’s name to a charity of your choice.
George was born on June 2, 1946 in Rock Island, IL, a son of John Sr. and Elizabeth “Leash” (Peters) Nesbitt. He married Lin Griffin on March 30, 1964. George worked as a journeyman machinist for Case and later Gett Industries before retiring.
George’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, raising Hungarian Vizslas, drinking Crown Royal, and spending time with friends and family. Although, he was most well-known for his story telling abilities, whether it be boxing a kangaroo or wrestling a bear! George was a very loving and charismatic person; he never met a stranger. He was a member of the Rock Island Conservation Club.
Those left to cherish George’s memory include his wife, Lin; children, George (Donna) Nesbitt Jr. and Wendy (Mike) Seemann; grandchildren, Jon (Anne) Nesbitt, Jessica (Terrance) Banks, Brianne Seemann, and Halle (Seth) Irwin; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Damien, Abbi, Uriah, Mila, Fynn, Isiella, and Miles; siblings, Jeanette Smith, Carol (Larry) Williamson, and Sherrie (Don) Benson; brother-in-law, Dwayne Lowry; close cousin, Frank Hoteling; and many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Alida Lowry, Jack Nesbitt, and Patty Bennet; brother-in-law, Billy Smith; and nephew, Willy Ashby.
