Herbert "Herb" Hall Jr., 92, of Sherrard, died Friday, August 27, 2021, at the Aledo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Sherrard Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sherrard Fire and Rescue.
Herb was born on February 7, 1929, in Moline, a son of Herbert Sr. and Margaret (Putnam) Hall. He graduated from Sherrard High School and married Dorothy Pauline Metzner on June 11, 1948 in Aledo. She preceded him in death on November 7, 2012. Herb retired from I.H. Farmall in 1986. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan, the Sherrard Fire Department, charter member of the Sherrard Lions Club, and served on the village board of Sherrard. Herb was an avid Cardinals fan and enjoyed boating, fishing, and taking his wife Pauline dancing. He was also a racing fan and an official for the Speed Demons.
Those left to cherish Herb's memory include his son, Garry Hall, Sherrard; grandchildren, Jerry (Shelby) Samuelson, Woodhull, Rich (Pam) Hall, Coyne Center, and Ashley Samuelson, Chicago; great grandchildren, Allison Burkhead (fiancé, Liv Cap), Blain Samuelson (fiancé, Sydney Verdi), Addison (Nick) Ragan, Chloe Hinerichsen, Michael Hinerichsen, and Jager Samuelson; special friend, Shirley Starr, Moline; and several extended family members and friends.
Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; parents; sister, Virginia; daughter, Sherry Samuelson; and great grandson, Alyn Hall.
