Inez R (Wright) Capps

Inez R. Capps, 86, of Rock Island, died Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Silver Cross Pavilion at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.  A funeral service will be 1 pm Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 12:30 – 1 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of The Salvation Army, 2200 5th Avenue, Moline, Illinois 61265.

Inez was born in Wayne City, Illinois on November 15, 1935, a daughter of Frank James and Opal Mahan Wright.  She married William C. “Bill” Capps on June 16, 1951 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on January 30, 2014.

Inez adored children and enjoyed spending her time as a homemaker and babysitter.  She was best known as “Miss Crossing Guard” for her 28 years of service at Longfellow Elementary School in Rock Island.  Many who knew her thought of her as their own grandmother.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Andy Capps, Morton, Ill.; grandchildren, Charly (Beth McKee) Capps, East Moline and Cathleen (Matt Nelson) Capps, Moline; great-grandson, Ethan Capps, Geneseo; daughter-in-law, Brenda Capps, Milan; and many other loving family, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Billy Jo Capps, grandsons, Jason and Benjamin Capps and daughter-in-law, Randi Capps.
