Jacqueline McClintock Obituary

Jacqueline M. McClintock, 88, of Rock Island died Sunday November 27, 2022 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.  No visitation or services will be held.  A celebration of life will occur at some time yet to be determined in the coming year.

Jacqueline Krause was born July 29, 1934 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, to Alfred and Marguerite (Muggs) Krause.  She was the third of nine children and the oldest of the three girls. She married Wayne L. McClintock in 1953 after a whirlwind romance that led to elopement.  The couple began their life together in Rockford where Wayne started his career with Bell Telephone.  Wayne died in 2013.

Jackie was such a keen card player some losers teased she must have cheated again.  After having her children she became an avid bowler (Illinois state champion 1978) and all her life she kept an exceptionally tidy house and groomed lawn.

The success Jackie held most dear was the union activity engaged in after working over a decade at the Rock Island County Recorder of Deeds office.  Excerpted from Jackie’s own account:

My first introduction to the Rock Island County Democratic Party was working at a chicken fry being held on the Rock River.  Then in 1978-1979 the AFSCME union was organizing the courthouse.  I ended up the liaison between the union and the employees.  The union was voted in and our 1st election for officers of AFSCME #2025 was held.  I served as President from 1979-1990.  I retired from the Recorder of Deeds office in 1991.

As president of Local #2025 I became a delegate to the Quad-City Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.  I served as a Trustee of the Federation from 1983-1990.  In 1990 I was elected Financial Secretary and served until April 2011 when I retired.

During my years at the Recorder’s Office, Quad-City Federation of Labor, and AFSCME I became active in politics and elections, doing phone banking, mailings, participating in fund raisers, and working election days.

I served on the executive board for AFSCME, Council 31 and was inducted into the Eastern Iowa-Northwestern Illinois AFL-CIO Hall of Fame December 12 1996.

Jackie for years had hanging in her house photographs of herself with Bill Clinton and Al Gore and many other national politicians.  She worked extensively for Lane Evans when Evans first ran for Congress.

Jackie is survived by her daughter Debra (McClintock) Morris, Davenport; son Gary McClintock and his spouse Kristie, Rock Island; granddaughter Jessica Kilker and her spouse Scott, Urbandale; granddaughter Lindsay Morris, Roanoke; and great-granddaughter Karsen Kilker, Urbandale; sister Judy Mitby and spouse Gene, LaCrosse; brother John and spouse Joyce, Viroqua; innumerable cousins, nieces and nephews in the Krause clan; and special friends Douglas (Bubba) and Cathy Taylor, Rock Island.  A special thanks to Doug and Cathy for helping with Jackie in her long decline.

Jackie was proceeded in death by husband Wayne, her parents, and siblings, Alfred Jr (Bud), Richard (Dick), Donald (Tutz), Gary, Tom, and Jo Ann.

Memorials may be made to the Danny Mitby Children’s Diabetes Fund, 700 West Avenue South, LaCrosse, WI 54601.
