Janet “Jan” J. Harroun, 84, of Reynolds, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. A funeral service will be 10 am Friday, September 15, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 801 W. Edgington Street, Reynolds. Memorials may be made in care of the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital or the Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge No. 679.
Jan was born in Washington County, Iowa on December 1, 1938, a daughter of Perry and Elsie Brock Murphy. She married Joe C. Harroun on September 21, 1957 and they had two children, Chuck and Deb. Jan shared her motherly love with two step-children, Fred and Judy.
She met Joe in her late teen years and they fell in love roller skating and dancing. As a young mother she owned and operated the Corner Café in Columbus Junction, Iowa also while holding down the fort while Joe worked out of town. They moved to Reynolds, Illinois in 1970. Jan helped with scouts, 4H and coached softball. She loved to bowl, play cards, play BINGO and roll dice. She and Joe enjoyed several years of fishing and camping with friends. Joe was beyond proud to have “the best bass fisherman in the Quad Cities,” as his wife. For several years she and Joe owned and operated The Taxidermy Shop where she completed the fine painting details for the fish, fowl and game mounts. She was the ultimate fan at her kids and grandkids sports activities. She would also tell you she was blessed to help watch her grandkids at her home while their parents were at work. Her grandkids will tell you they were the blessed ones.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Joe Harroun; son, Chuck (Tammi) Harroun; daughter, Deb (Jeff) Thomas; grandchildren, Erin (Acacia) Parchert, Lincoln (Meaghan) Parchert, Carson Thomas, Chelsie (Thomas) Chaney and Nathan (Stacy) Harroun; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Jacob, Abel, Blayre, Evelyn, Ella, Emery and Hudson; step-children, Fred (Robin) Harroun and Judy Lawnsdale; step-grandchildren, Kory Middagh, Kristy Jones, Kassy Middagh, Chad Harroun, Joslynn Harroun, Sam Harroun, Kimberly Ash, Jarod Thomas and Seth Thomas; and brothers, Donald, Jim (Karen) and Earl (Connie) Murphy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Joe E. and Darlene Harroun and great-grandson, Griffin Chaney.
