Jay "Bill" Bump Obituary

Jay “Bill” W. Bump, 82, of Moline, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022, at UPH-Trinity, Rock Island.  Per his wishes cremation rites will be accorded and no services will be held.

Jay was born on April 6, 1940 in Moline, the son of Jay L. and Myrtle (Block) Bump.  He married Karen Peterson-Thompson on February 9, 1996.  Jay was a graduate of Moline High School.  Jay was a proud veteran serving in the US Army from 1959 to 1965.  He retired from IBEW Local #145 as an electrician.  When Jay and Karen both retired, they moved from Moline down to Mount Dora, FL.  In his earlier years he played semi-professional football.  People will remember him as being a loyal friend and a hard worker.  In his time off Jay could be found in his garage tinkering with the multiple projects he had going on.  He could build just about anything and build them to last a lifetime.  Most of all he loved his family and spending time with them.

Jay is survived by his wife, Karen Bump, Mount Dora, FL; son, Jay L. (Michelle) Bump, St. Augustine, FL; step-children, R. Montana (Le) Thompson, Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Laurie (Thomas) Colantuono, Denver, CO, and Curtis J. (fiancé, Kate Wetzel) Thompson, Steamboat Springs, CO; grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Bump both of Bettendorf, IA; step-grandchildren, Luke, Emily, Madeleine, Jack, and Charlie Thompson; and brothers, Tom (Roswitha) Bump, Silvis and John Bump, Oakland, CA.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Bump; and stepson, Jeffrey Thompson.
