Jean Phelps

Jean Phelps, 95, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023, at her Assisted Living facility in Arvada, CO.

She was born October 29, 1927, in Illinois City, Illinois to parents, Louis and Philipena (Fuhr) Danner. She was the youngest of five children and was preceded in death by all her siblings; Grace Larson, Elma Baldwin, Ralph Danner, and Carol Danner.

She married Jerry Earl Phelps on July 2nd, 1952, in Muscatine, Iowa. Jerry Preceded her in death on March 24th, 2021. They had two children, Roy J. (Deceased) and Debbie Phelps Antognoli.

Jean and Jerry owned several dry-cleaning establishments in the Rock Island area: Model Cleaners, Jerry On The Spot, Vanderbeke Cleaners, and Phelps Uniform Rental. Jean also owned and managed Center Stage Gifts.

Jean had a special talent for flower arranging and gardening. She enjoyed picnics and wiener roasts. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Debbie (David) Antognoli of Denver, CO; grandchildren, David P. (Jessica) Antognoli of Chicago, IL, and Olivia (Ben) Stoner of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren, Roy Stoner and Vivian Stoner.

Inurnment will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, IL.  A private celebration of life service will be held in Colorado at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Roy J. Phelps Memorial Music Scholarship at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL or First Baptist Church of Rock Island, IL.

Jean will be missed beyond words. As a tribute to Jean, consider spending some time outdoors doing something you enjoy with family.
