Jerry Hoyle Obituary

Jerry Lee Hoyle, 70, of Milan, died Saturday, November 28, 2020 at his home.  Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded.  A memorial service will be Noon, Friday, July 16, 2021 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan.  A celebration of life gathering will be from 10 am – 12 pm Friday, July 16 at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island where military honors will be presented by the Milan American Legion Post 569.  Memorials may be made in care of the Rock Island County Conservation Club – Hunter Safety Course. 

Jerry was born in Avon, Illinois on September 23, 1950.  He was raised in Rock Island and graduated from Rock Island High School in 1968.

Jerry was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the 3rd Battalion 11th Marine Division from 1969-1970 where he operated the M113 armored personnel carriers during the Vietnam War.

Jerry married Connie Heinrich in October of 1971.  She preceded him in death in July of 2002.

Jerry worked 33 years at the Rock Island Arsenal.  He was deployed to Kuwait and Iraq as a civilian contractor for the Department of Defense.  He retired in 2006.

Jerry was an avid turkey hunter who also enjoyed visiting Wyoming to hunt antelope.  In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing and participated in many bass tournaments.  He also enjoyed restoring antique tractors.  Jerry loved traveling to South Dakota, Wyoming and visiting Yellowstone National Park.

He was a member of the Milan Rifle Club and the Milan American Legion Post 569. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his special friend, Beverly Wassenhove, Milan; sister, Brenda Cassini, Milan; grandson, Dr. Josh (Emmie) Whitmore; great-grandsons, Henry and Owen Lee; nieces, Ann, Amber, Jill and Katherine; nephews, Nicholas and Joseph; brothers-in-law, Paul (Chris) Heinrich and Joe (Shelley) Heinrich; sister-in-law, Judy Heinrich; and best friend, Fred Hofmann.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Heartland Hospice for their care and compassion.  You are angels!  They also thank the wonderful nurses in Iowa City that showed Jerry love, humor and friendship though the many hours of chemo.
