Jimmy H. Thompson

                Jimmy H. Thompson, 79, of Coal Valley, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Heartland Healthcare Center, Moline after a brief illness.

                A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, with recitation of the rosary at 4:30 pm.  Per his wish cremation rites will be accorded after the Mass.  Memorials may be made to the family.

                Jimmy was born on November 16, 1938 in Detroit, Alabama, the son of Belton and Juanita (Merchant) Thompson.  He served in the United States Marines after high school.  Jimmy was united in marriage to Linda Richmiller on October 3, 1959 in Rock Island.  He drove a semi for Service Transportation and Mayfield Transfer until he retired in 1999.

                After retirement, Jimmy enjoyed spending hours on his John Deere tractors, cutting grass and throwing snow at his own house and that of his family and neighbors.  He also spent a great deal of time playing golf and having almost daily coffee with his many friends in Milan.  Jimmy always had a joke ready for any occasion.  He enjoyed bowling and participated in many leagues through the years.

                Jimmy is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Darrin (Trina Thomas) and Doug (Denise) Thompson, all of Coal Valley; grandchildren, Brandon, Kayla, Jacob and Devin Thompson; great-grandchildren, Jaida Thompson, Aaliyah and Landon Casto, Connor and Isaac Thompson.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Bill, Bobby, and Jerry Thompson.
