John Miles Munson, 85, of Rock Island passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.

Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and private family services are to be held at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in care of the family. Private inurnment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, Iowa.

John was born on November 26, 1938 in Baudette, Minnesota, the son of Fred and Opal (Plowman) Munson. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1957 and Augustana College in 1961. He married Rogene Herron on October 10, 1958 at Memorial Christian Church, Rock Island. John worked as a system analyst for Royal Neighbors for many years. His hobbies included gardening, bicycling, and running. He completed several Ragbrai and Bix races throughout the years. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Rogene; children, Tim (Sherry) Munson, Faith VanPatten, Jeff Munson, Dana Munson, Chris (Karen) Munson, Cindy Perkins, Nikki Munson, Anji (Mike Trahan) Munson, Corey Munson, Mark Munson, Melissa Munson and Molly Munson; grandchildren, Nick, Leslie, Andrea, Sarah, Pat, Jacob, Hope, Joy, Jessica, Erin, Kyliegh, Kayla, Greyson, Juliann, Claire, Savanna, Ana, Amanda, Arrika, Emily, Nadia, Asha, Kayliana, Kierian, Morgan, Arriah, Lyla and Saige; and great grandchildren, Briley, Trevor, Alexiannah, Londynn and Amina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter and son in law, Tammy (Steven) Vinar; granddaughter, Stephanie Vinar; daughter in law, Susan Munson; and sister, Janet M. Munson.
