John J. Rasmussen

John J. Rasmussen, 65, of Taylor Ridge, IL passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at UnityPoint-Trinity Hospital, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion in Milan on Sunday, March 19 from 1-5:00 PM. Memorials preferred to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.

John was born March 13, 1957 to William “Bill” and Winifred “Jan” (Lowery) Rasmussen in Rock Island. He grew up in Moline, graduating from Moline High School in 1975. John then earned a degree from Hamilton Technical College before starting his career as an Engineering Technician for Bandag, setting up and fixing equipment all over the world. He then owned and operated a machine shop in Rock Island before taking over the family business, Mallardtone Game Calls. After selling the business, John worked as a machine repairman for the Arsenal until retiring in 2012.

On January 17, 2000 he was united in marriage to Vicki (Harman) in Las Vegas, NV and the couple made their home in Taylor Ridge.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a talented woodworker. He could fix anything-repairing anything from guns to restoring old cars. He also was very active with drag racing.

John was a devoted family man who will be greatly missed by his wife, Vicki; children, Brooke Crippen, Jeff (Nick) Nesbitt, Lee Gnatovich, and Nick Gnatovich; grandson, Graham Crippen; siblings, Steve (Paula) Rasmussen and Robyn Hamlin; nieces and nephews, Emily Iverson, Beth Rasmussen, Matt Rasmussen, Faith Boyle, and Kody Hamlin; and his beloved dog, Murphy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Paul Rasmussen; nephew, Elliot Rasmussen; and brother-in-law, Ben Hamlin.
