Lenore Turkeltaub

Lenore Turkeltaub, 91, of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away after a valiant battle with COVID on Wednesday, November 17, 2021.

Because of COVID, family only gravesite services with burial will be at the Hebrew Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. People who wish to attend the unveiling of the headstone and celebrate Lenore’s life will be able to do so at a later date. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Lenore was born on July 25, 1930 in the Bronx, New York to William and Anna (Frost) Trager.  Her childhood years were spent in Brooklyn.  She married Jack Richard Turkeltaub on June 24, 1951.  He preceded her in death on July 4, 2013.

Mrs. Turkeltaub was a graduate of Brooklyn College and received a Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland.  She began her 28 year teaching career by teaching Pre-school in Brooklyn, NY.  Later she taught grades 3-6 in New York City, Maryland, New Jersey, and Iowa.  Her last few years of teaching were with the Gifted and Talented children in Davenport.

Lenore was a member of the Tri-City Jewish Center in Rock Island, now Congregation Beth Israel.

Lenore was an avid reader and authored and published four poetry books.  She enjoyed music, concerts, art, watching ballet, and seeing opera.  Her passion was traveling, and she had the privilege of traveling to 80 countries and all of the 50 United States.

Lenore volunteered at CASI for over 25 years.  Prior to that, she was a volunteer at the Masonic Village Nursing Home and Genesis Hospital.  She also volunteered at Jersey Ridge Place.  Working with older people was one of Lenore’s many gifts.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Steven Turkeltaub, AZ; daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Karen Weiss (Dr. Carey), NM; Laura Douglass (Mark) NY, and grandchildren Dr. Joshua, Dr. Ashley (Turkeltaub) Pezzi (Dr. Todd), Taylor Turkeltaub, Dr. Andrea (Weiss) Armour (Dr. Phil), Dr. Jessica, Justin, Alexis Weiss, Michael (Sarah), Jennifer, Kaitlyn (Douglass) Elo (Nick), Jillian Douglass, six great grandchildren and dearest friend, Linda Manning.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Jack, her sister, Jeannette and brother-in-law Norbert Kerner.
