Lillie M. Matthews

Lillie M. “Red” Matthews, 75, of Rock Island, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. A live-streamed funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2021 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, and can be accessed online by visiting https://www.wheelanpressly.com/live-stream. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Lillie was born on May 3, 1946, in Washington County, Mississippi, a daughter of J.W. and Lillie (Givens) Black. She was a member of Greater Antioch Church, Rock Island. Lillie enjoyed watching her grandchildren, spending time with her family, reading, and watching soap operas.

Those left to cherish Lillie’s memory include her children, Carl Black, Amy Willis, Johnny Matthews, Timothy Matthews, and Rukesha Shell; grandchildren, Kavina, Kavin, Timothy Jr., Amere, Jeffery, Asia, Cheree, Carl Jr., Lisa, Tiffany, Dante, Johnny Jr., and Jarren; great grandchildren, Arianna, Amari, Aaron, Kaelyn, Taliyah, Harmoni, Lil Kavin, Isaac, and a host of other great grandchildren, step children, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; sisters, Rosie, Bessie, Dessie, Mary Ann, Mary, and Calma; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Lillie was preceded in death by the love of her life, Joe D. Martin; parents; daughter, Alison Matthews; and six brothers.
