Lois Mary (Eberhardt) McCarthy

Lois Mary McCarthy, 90, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Silver Cross Nursing at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Thursday, May 11, 2023, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be one-prior from 10:00 to 11:00am at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Food Pantry at St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Rock Island and Milan Unit of Church Women United, or the Rock Island County Historical Society.

Lois Mary was born February 25, 1933, in Moline, to Fred and Margaret (Heirbrandt) Eberhardt. She married Edwin T. McCarthy in 1952 at Holy Trinity Church in Moline.

Lois was a medical secretary at Franciscan Medical Center for many years. She retired in 1999 from First Lutheran Church in Rock Island, where she was church secretary for eleven years.

Lois was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Since her retirement she was an active volunteer to Friends of Rock Island Public Library, St. Vincent dePaul Food Pantry, Rock Island County Historical Society, and Church Women United, serving as Vice President.

Surviving are her sons, Jim (Robin) McCarthy and Kevin (Joan) McCarthy; daughter, Linda (Bob) Singleton; grandchildren, Mike McCarthy, Shawn McCarthy, Rhea (Dan) See, Katie McCarthy, Kara McCarthy, Meghan (Jay) Summitt, Brianna Singleton, Jessica (Joe) Coughlin, Rob Singleton, Christy (Ryan) Hogan, Kevin Mayberry, Dan McCarthy, and Ryan McCarthy; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons, Daniel and Jeffrey McCarthy; grandson, Seth McCarthy; siblings, Fred Eberhardt and Joyce Carroll; and granddaughter-in-law, Deanna McCarthy.
