Obituary

Lyle "Butch" Lingafelter, age 85, of Sherrard, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at his home surrounded by family. Private family services and burial will be held at Preemption Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice.

Butch was born on January 3, 1941, to Viola (Cozadd) and Lyle Lingafelter Sr. in Monmouth, Illinois, and grew up in Rock Island, Illinois. After attending Rock Island High School, he began his career in auto body repair, learning his trade at several local repair shops before joining Erickson Chevrolet, where he worked as a body man for 15 years. He later transferred to Standard Forwarding, working as a trailer mechanic for 25 years until his retirement in 2006. Never one to sit still, Butch went on to start his own business, "Lyle's Light Loads", plowing snow and hauling rock and dirt.

On July 7, 1962 Butch was united in marriage to his best friend, Nancy Hays at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rock Island. Together, they made their home in Milan for more than 50 years before moving to Sherrard where he continued to be active and enjoy the outdoors.

Butch loved fishing the waters of the Mississippi River with his son, from Keithsburg, Illinois, to La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was a friendly face to everyone he met and cherished time spent with family and friends at his cabin in Bagley, Wisconsin. Butch was also an avid dirt track racing fan. He and his son, Kevin, traveled the country attending more than 100 races a year, with his favorite track being Eldora Speedway in Ohio.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Nancy; children, Kevin Lingafelter and Rhonda (Jon) Schumacher; granddaughter, Amanda (Leroy) Brocksieck; great- grandchildren, Ian and Raelyn Brocksieck; and siblings, Sharon (Terry) Bailey and Larry (Louise) Lingafelter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Patricia Wright.
