Marlene Anne Smith

Marlene Anne Smith, 86, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022, at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. with a time of sharing on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Private burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse International Relief.

Marlene was born August 19, 1936, in Moline, a daughter of Louis and Marie (Seidel) Matthys. She married Robert Avery Smith on November 12, 1954 in Rock Island. Marlene then became a registered nurse, working at Moline Lutheran Hospital, Franciscan Hospital, and retiring as the parish nurse at Salem Lutheran Church in Moline. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island. Marlene enjoyed Fannie Mae fudge and loved tulips. She always looked forward to spending time with her family, especially during the holidays.

Those left to remember Marlene are her husband, Robert; sons, Bob Smith, Davenport, and Michael (Peggy) Smith, Palm Coast, FL; grandchildren, Zachary Smith, Rebecca Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Rachel Dailey, Timothy Smith, and Betsy Ginnane; great-grandchildren, Connor, Faith Anne, Braden, Carson, and Paxton; sister, Suzanne Garcia; brother-in-law, Paul Smith; and niece, Kimberly.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Marie.
