Obituary

Minister Luis Solomon, Jr. , 75, of Rock Island, IL passed away Friday October 22, 2021 at his home.

Private inurnment with military honors will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, is assisting the family with arrangements.

A memorial service for Luis will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 13, at New Birth of Victory Temple, 1001 18th Ave., Rock Island, IL.

Luis was born on December 31, 1945 in Vallejo, California to Luis Sr. and Clara Mae Solomon. He was one of fifteen born to this union. He took great pride in letting his siblings know that he was "Big Brother". At a young age his family moved to Spokane, WA where he was raised.

Luis discovered his love for the guitar and was blessed to be self-taught in keyboards. When he was in high school he started a band that was popular. Although he did try out for boxing, his love for music was his passion.

He was nicked named Louie-Louie and Duke. After graduating from high school Luis served in the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Luis moved back to Spokane, WA where he had various jobs.

Luis gave his life to Christ and formed a Gospel group with three of his brothers named The Solomon Brothers. Luis was one of the lead singers with his 3 octave range. He was known as the BB King of Gospel. He moved to Iowa to be a member of Victory Temple C.O.G.I.C. founded by his father, Luis Solomon Sr. and pastored by Daryl Solomon. Luis loved a lively praise and worship service and hearing the Word of God. Luis was baptized and filled with The Holy Ghost.

He will be missed for his joyful laughter, his singing, guitar and piano playing music, dapper attire, including his dark shaded glasses. He was a lover of classic cars and traveling. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sheila Solomon; Sons Rodney Varner-Solomon (Fiona), Marc, Orlando, Corey, Stanley(Katrina) and Joshua(Damona). Daughter Porcha; 20 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Evelyn, Rudy, Nordale, Jai, Ivan, Oliver Sr.(Kareba), Valerie(Melvin), Daryl(Mary) and Sandra. Many nieces and nephews. Luis was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers Nathan, Rueben, Al, Dean and sister Lydia.
