Ray A. Crownover, 91, of Coal Valley passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at his home. Services for Mr. Crownover will be 9:45 am, Friday, May 7, 2021 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, and may be live-streamed at www.wheelanpressly.com/live-stream-Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7pm, Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post No. 246. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice.
Ray was born on August 21, 1929 in Davenport, a son of Ray Sr. and Mayme (Tizzard) Crownover. He married Patricia Myers on August 20, 1949 in Hernando, Mississippi. She preceded him in death on October 6, 2011. Ray worked as a deputy supply chief at the Rock Island Arsenal for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Moline American Legion Post No. 246 and the Rock Island Moose Lodge. Ray enjoyed shooting pool and woodworking. Mr. Crownover was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his children, Linda Crownover-Inch, Milan, Diane Harder, Coal Valley, David (Dana) Crownover, Chandler, Arizona, Tim (Diane) Crownover, Moline; a daughter in law, Kathy Crownover, Florida; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; son, Loren Crownover; son in law, James Harder; and siblings, Dorothy Ryall, Edith Biller, Alice Feeney and Bill Crownover.
