Richard Alan Poling, 65, of Andalusia, passed away Friday September 20, 2024, at his home.
A memorial gathering will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday September 24, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Rick was born on November 29, 1958 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Maurice and Norma (Glick) Poling. The third of five boys, Rick was the middle child, which he always said was why he was so well balanced.
Rick graduated from Rock Island High School in 1976. He then spent over 40 years working in the automotive salvage business. He spent most of his career at Auto Acres in Milan, Poell's Enterprises in DeWitt, Iowa and E & J Auto Salvage in Rock Island. He then went to work at Taylor Ridge Drilled Foundations and retired from there in early 2023.
Rick enjoyed NASCAR, working on cars and shooting pool. He shot pool for Jim's Knoxville Tap, Dooley's, Sergeant Majors and most recently Lloyd's Longbranch. He also loved getting out with friends in his side by side. There were so many local rides and lots of trips to Wisconsin.
He married Kim Ireland on October 15, 1999 and started their blended family of sons, Chad, East Moline, Eric, Kremling, Colorado; daughters, Amber (Kevin) Matter, Rock Island, Raegan (Brian) Calvert, Northwood, Iowa and Stephanie (Derrick) Davis, Rudd, Iowa.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, his five children; grandchildren, Kameron, Kelsie, Kaylea, Auston, Heath, Kayden, Jordan and Matthew; 10 great grandchildren; siblings, Randy (Laura), East Moline, Ron (Aleksandra), Oceanside, California, Kevin, Bluffton, Indiana, Kent (Vickie), Riverview, Florida; several nieces, nephews and great friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
