Richard "Dick" Allen Smock

Richard “Dick” Allen Smock, 74, of Andalusia, died Monday, May 29, 2023 at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.  A funeral service will be 10 am Monday, June 5, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan.  Visitation will be from 1-4 pm Sunday, June 4, 2023 at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Andalusia Cemetery, Andalusia, Illinois, where military honors will be presented.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. or the Vietnam Veterans of America #299.

Richard was born in Rock Island, Illinois on April 11, 1949, a son of John M. and Eva M. Hopper Smock.  He married Marlowe Robinson on May 15, 1971 at the First Presbyterian Church, Milan. 

Richard was a U.S. army veteran who served during Vietnam.  He received numerous medals including a Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device and 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.

Richard worked for 25 years as an assembler for Raymond Toyota Manufacturing in Muscatine, Iowa.  He retired in 2014.

Richard enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, boating and riding UTV’s (side by side) with friends.  He was a member of the Reynolds American Legion and the Vietnam Veterans of America #299.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Marlowe Smock, Andalusia; and siblings, Bill Sehnert, Andalusia, Jack Smock, Milan and Mary Alderson, LeClaire, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Virginia Carpio and Sandra Pate.
