Robert Martin Chaney, 98, of Rock Island, formerly of Dubuque, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.

A private graveside service will be at Rock Island National Cemetery for Robert and Norma Marchand. Memorials may be made to Friendship Manor, Rock Island or Hospice Compassus. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting with services.

Bob was born on August 24, 1924 in Mt. Pleasant, IA, the son of Horace and Georgie Chaney. Bob and Marchand Chaney were married on June 22, 1944 in Kahoka, Missouri. Bob was a 1942 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in Iowa, and a 1948 graduate of the University of Iowa Engineering School. Bob was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict.

Bob was a long time employee of Deere and Company and served in various assignments at Dubuque, Iowa and the Quad Cities, retiring as general manager of the J D Foundry in East Moline in 1982. Bob was a very active member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Dubuque, IA where he served as church school superintendent and church board member. He enjoyed living and boating on the Mississippi River with his wife and traveling far and wide, particularly in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and annual, extended, tropical, winter time vacationing in the Riviera Maya.

Survivors include two daughters, Deedra Chaney and Danya (Terry) Richardson; granddaughters, Chelsea (Brian) Charles and Jesse (Dylan) Bry; great grandchildren, Spencer, Miles, Roscoe and Lois; and siblings, Betty Lamphere, Ed Chaney, Louise Berg, and Bill Chaney. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marchand Chaney; parents; and brother, Dutch Chaney.
