Sallie D. Heer, 96, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Irving Township Cemetery in Hastings, Michigan. Memorials may be made to the Franklin and Sallie Heer Missionary Student Scholarship at the Bible Missionary Institute.

Sallie was born on July 15, 1929, in Elk City, Oklahoma, a daughter of Clarence Hardy and Gail A. (Glick) Maples. She graduated from high school and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education. On June 15, 1951, she married John Franklin Heer in Oregon. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2015.

Together, Sallie and Franklin shared a life of faith and service, traveling to various destinations as missionaries. Sallie dedicated many years to teaching before retiring and was honored as a nominee of Who's Who of America's Teachers. She was a faithful member of Trinity Bible Missionary Church in Milan.

Sallie had a gift for quilting and sewing and found great joy in creating things for those she loved. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family.

Those left to cherish Sallie's memory include her children, Stephen (Loretta) Heer, Gail (Bob) Dyal, and Timothy (Jane) Heer; grandchildren, Kristi Heer, Daniel Dyal, Michael Dyal, Zackary (Christine) Heer, Chad (Amy) Heer, Daylin (Jaimie) Heer, Patricia Dyal, Elana Heer, and Chloe Heer; great-grandchildren, Jessica Dyal, Blake Dyal, Kristen Dyal, Jacob Heer, Luke Heer, Daniel Heer, Kaitlyn Heer, Elijah Heer, Lou Cassy Heer, and Eleanor Heer; brother, Charles (Eileen) Maples; and brother-in-law, Ralph Jones.

Sallie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Joe Maples, Harrell Maples, and Frankie Jones; and sisters-in-law, Penny Maples and Nancy Maples.
