Sandra King Obituary

Sandra King, 71, of Taylor Ridge, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020 at SSM Health DePaul Hospital, St. Louis, MO. Private services will be 11 am, Thursday, January 7, 2020 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan.  A recording of the service will be available to view on Thursday afternoon by visiting https://www.wheelanpressly.com/obituary/Sandra-King. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Belgian Sheepdog Rescue Trust and Midwest Schipperke Rescue.

Sandra was born on January 10, 1949 in Rock Island, a daughter of Darrel “Bud” Dotson and Eleanor “Mickey” McNerney Dotson. She married James King on January 10, 1970 in Rock Island. Sandy and her husband, James designed and built the home they shared together. It was a “Labor of Love” that they were able to enjoy for over 40 years, where they raised their two daughters and hosted many family gatherings. Sandy worked as a bookkeeper at her parents’ store, Dotson’s Jewelers until it closing in 1990. She later worked for Johannes Bus Service, Rock Island.

Sandy was an active participant in AKC dog shows from 1970 until her passing.  She bred Belgian Sheepdogs and Schipperkes under the 'Sandevel' prefix, and later became an AKC licensed multiple group and Best in Show judge.  She was actively involved in the Tri-City Kennel Club, The Quad City Dog Obedience Club, and both National and local Belgian Sheepdog and Schipperke clubs.  Her passion for AKC related events was unmatched and she thoroughly enjoyed her time in the dog community. Sandy passed this passion on to her daughters and her grandchildren, all of whom are involved in AKC events.  She was always willing to share her knowledge and engage in animated discussions about her opinions. She was a mentor to many, and  her passing leaves a cavernous void that will be difficult to fill.

She was a member of Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 52 years, James; daughters, Laura King (Robin Novack), Milan and Jana Behm, Maywood, ILL.; grandchildren, Daniel “Trey” Behm III, Bartonville, ILL. and Tori Behm, Bartonville, ILL.

Sandra was joined in death by her father, Darrel “Bud” Dotson; mother, Eleanor “Mickey” Dotson; sister, Bonnie Rice; and a brother, Kevin Dotson.
