Stephen “Steve” Carlson, 69, of Reynolds, IL passed away peacefully at his home on November 2, 2023. There will be a private family graveside service.
Steve was born on October 20, 1954 in Moline, IL to Robert (Neil) and Joan Carlson. He graduated from Rockridge High School in 1973. After graduating, he worked as a CNC machinist for various employers through his machining career. After almost 50 years as a machinist, he finally retired from General Machine and Grind in Aledo, IL, in January of 2023. Steve really enjoyed working the last years of his machining career at “The Grind.”
On December 17, 1977, Steve was united in marriage to Jeanne Harbarger. The couple lived in Reynolds, where they raised their three children together.
Steve enjoyed working as a machinist, riding horses, reading and learning about history, going on cruises, travelling with Jeanne and Saturday family Bible study. Most importantly, and more than anything, he enjoyed spending time with Jeanne, his kids, especially his grandchildren… to which he will always be remembered as their beloved “Poppy.”
Steve is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jeanne. Daughter Stacey (Scott) Carlson, of Illinois City, IL, son Bill (Amanda) Johnson of Bettendorf, IA and son Steve Carlson of Taylor Ridge, IL. Grandchildren Sawyer (Lindsey) Esau, Payton (Wyatt) Kellogg, Spencer (Sarah) Esau, Zoe Esau, Savannah Carlson, Lyla and Ian Johnson and great-grandchild, Weston, and brothers Bob Carlson of Carlisle, Ohio and John Carlson of Andalusia, IL.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Mike.
