Thomas A. Bump, 81, of Silvis, died Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.  Cremation rites were accorded.  A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.  Memorials in care of a charity of your choice.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family.

Thomas was born in 1941 in Moline, a son of Jay Louis and Myrtle Block Bump.  Thomas graduated from Moline High School, Illinois State University and did graduate work at the University of Chicago.  He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam.

Thomas was a high school teacher for several years in the inter-city Chicago Public School system.  He met Roswitha Kuhbier in 1972 and moved back to the Quad Cities.  They were married in 1977.

Thomas retired from the industrial relations department at John Deere Harvester.

Thomas was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of American Post 299.  He enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe.  He also enjoyed hiking and his annual fishing trips to Colorado with his buddies.  Thomas and Roswitha spent their winters in Florida.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Roswitha Bump, Silvis; brother, John Bump, California; nephew, Jay (Michelle) Bump; niece, Sandra Boehle; three great-nephews, Joshua, Jacob and Lucas; beloved aunt, Eva Steiner, North Dakota; special uncle, Dr. Kenneth Block, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Carol Christiansen and Brigitte Boehle; and a large and loving extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bill and Richard Bump.

Remember Tom by these words:  Go placidly amid the noise & haste, & remember what peace there may be in silence.  As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.  Speak your truth quietly & clearly.
