Thomas E. “Tom” Williams, 74, of Milan, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2021 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Visitation will be from 9.30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island.
Tom was born on September 17, 1946, in Sulligent, Alabama, a son of Purvie Thomas and Gertrue (Morris) Williams. He graduated from Rock Island High School and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea. Tom then married Linda Gridley on September 20, 1969 in Aledo, Illinois. He worked at the former Oscar-Mayer plant in Davenport for 32 years, retiring in 2000. Tom was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island. He enjoyed reading, going to the casino, driving fast cars, and Christmas. Tom also liked to fish and visit Lake Odessa in Muscatine and stay in his cabin. Above all, Tom enjoyed spending time and caring for his wife and family.
Those left to cherish the memory of Tom include his wife of 52 years, Linda; daughters, Amanda Williams and Tarrah (Brian) Smith; granddaughters, Lydia and Emily Skelton; and sister, Louise (Steve) Watters.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings.
