Vernon Cook Obituary

Vernon Clark Cook, 87, Rock Island, IL passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, IA. There will be a visitation from 10-11:00 AM with a funeral service following at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 8, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Memorials preferred to Grace Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.

Vernon was born on July 17, 1935 to Archibald Clark and Elsie A. (McMichael) Cook in Moline, IL. He grew up in Taylor Ridge and graduated from Reynolds High School. On October 3, 1954 he was united in marriage to Nancy Petersen at First Methodist Church in Rock Island. The couple lived briefly in Taylor Ridge before making their home in Rock Island where they raised their two sons.

Vernon spent his career in personnel management at Miller Container Company where he worked for 25 years until his retirement.

He liked horses and was involved in the Belgian Horse Corp. He also enjoyed woodworking and all sports. Vernon was an avid Cubs fan and pitched for many fast-pitch softball teams over the years.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nancy; sons, Joel (Tita) Cook and Steven Cook; grandson, Clark Cook; brother, Glen (Ann) Cook; and numerous nieces and nephews.
