Obituary

Warren Frederick Herzberg Jr., 83, of Milan, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, surrounded by family and love. There will be a visitation from 12-2:00 PM on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 17, 2025 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Warren was born on September 13, 1942, in New Windsor, Illinois, to Warren F. Herzberg Sr. and E. Geraldine (Danner) Herzberg. After the passing of his mother in a car accident when he was an infant, Warren was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Jennie Herzberg, while his father served overseas during World War II. When his father returned home, he married Fern E. Sharp, and together they raised Warren Jr.

A proud graduate of Rock Island High School's Class of 1960, Warren went on to serve three years of active duty in the U.S. Army as a disbursement specialist in the Finance Department at Fort Bliss, Texas. He also served at Fort Polk, Louisiana, during the tense days of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962—a time he would often recall with deep gratitude that peace had prevailed.

After his military service, Warren worked alongside his father in the family trucking business and went on to build a long and dedicated career in the trucking industry. Over the years, he drove for several companies, including Consolidated Freightways and Crouse Cartage, eventually retiring from Central States Trucking Company.

In the 1960s, Warren met and married Lawana June Payne, and together they raised four daughters. He was a loving and involved father who rarely missed a softball game, school event, or family gathering—even after he and June divorced in 1982. In 1988, Warren married Rosalind J. Parr (Moses), gaining four stepchildren and expanding the circle of people lucky enough to call him family. He and Rosalind shared 37 years together until his passing.

Warren will be remembered for his steady kindness, dry wit, and quiet strength. He was a man who valued hard work, family, and a good story from the road. Those who knew him best will never forget his easy laugh, his loyalty, and his love of life's simple pleasures.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalind Herzberg; his daughters LeAnne Guyton of Milan, IL, Christine (Tommy) Brower of Bloomingdale, GA, Carla (Mark) Britton of Davenport, IA, and Jodi Herzberg; stepsons Ronald Moses of Milan, IL, Rhys (Kakuko) Moses of Tokyo, Japan, and Robert (Britni) Moses of Shadybrook, Rock Island, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Fern, his stepdaughter Robin Moses, and his grandmother Jennie, who lovingly raised him.

Warren's legacy lives on through his seven grandchildren — Casey Herzberg, Malerie Herzberg, Teddy (Tori) Bohl, Amber (Joseph) Garcia, Dallas Guyton, and Jessica Guyton — and his five great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry his love forward.
