William F. Grams, 95, of Rock Island, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island. Services for Mr. Grams will be 10 am, Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Rock Island VFW Post 1303 and the Milan American Legion Post No. 569.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or to the QC Honor Flight.
William was born on January 23, 1920 in Rock Island, a son of Otto and Josephine (Mizer) Grams. He married Anna Swanson on July 31, 1948 in Moline. Bill worked as a machine operator at the Rock Island Arsenal for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was a life-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island, Rock Island VFW Post No. 1303, NARFE, and the F-Troop of his church. Bill enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, and watching his grandchildren in their sporting events. He was a USMC veteran of World War II and Korea.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; children, Beverly (Dennis) Buranek, Mountain View, CA., Barbara (John) Sanchez, Yorba Linda, CA., and Betty (David) Ernst, Geneseo; grandchildren, Ben (Lori) Buranek, Stephanie (Rex) Elder, Erica (Nathan) Stralow, and Megan Ernst; great grandchildren, Rex, Layla, and Cora.
