Louise Wynes, 87, of Milan, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services are 10 am Monday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan.  Burial is at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island.  Visitation is 2 to 5 pm Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Rock Island, or to the Milan Improvement Project (M.I.P.).

Louise Sweeney was born June 12, 1928 in Macomb, Ill., a daughter of John and Francelia Sipes Sweeney.  She married Walter B. Wynes Jr. on Jan. 26, 1947 at First Baptist Church, Rock Island.

Louise was a member of First Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday school and been a youth group leader.  She had been very active in the P.T.A. at W. L. Eddy School, Milan and a member of the Milan Lioness Club and Illinois Moose Lodge 3000.  Louise enjoyed square dancing, ballroom dancing and traveling, having visited every continent including Antarctica.  Her greatest love was for her family, whom she was happy to boast about.  Family gatherings at the Wynes' home were a special delight with tables full of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Louise was the family's matriarch.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Walter; children, Bryant (Terry) Wynes, Deptford, N.J., David (Kathryn) Wynes, Atlanta, Ga., Christine Wynes, Kennewick, Wash., Patrick (Kathy) Wynes, Beloit, Wis., and James (Sara) Wynes, Port Byron; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Peck, Elkhart, Ind.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Juanita Miller-Fox.
