H. John Lund, 46 of Houston, Texas, formerly of Rock Island died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at his home.


A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E 4th Ave., Milan.  Visitation will be 9 am until service time.  Private inurnment will be at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the Down Syndrome Association of Houston (DSAH).


John was born Jan. 8, 1971 in Moline, a son of Holger W. and Carolyn A. Woeber Lund.  He graduated from Alleman High School in 1989.  John graduated in 1993 from Loyola University, Chicago.  He served on DSAH's Board of Directors for two years and was recently employed as a Development Professional to fund raise for Education for Life. 

John's passion was basketball.  It was important to John to spread the love of the game and so while in Houston he volunteered with the basketball program at Strake Jesuit Collegiate Preparatory School. John found joy spending time with the members of the DSAH program and was able to share his love of basketball with them through the creation of the Buddy Basketball program.  John was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

 

Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Lund of Taylor Ridge; brother, David (Lorri) Lund, Taylor Ridge; sisters, LuAnn Kerr, Rock Island, Kareen Lund, Rock Island, Sandy Stephenson, Rock Island, Linda (Leo) Schnoor, Wheaton, Ill., and Lorrie Huiskamp, Davenport; several nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.   The family would like to express special gratitude to Lana Jabara, a close friend of John's. He was preceded in death by his father, Holger; his grandparents; brother-in-law, Joe Kerr and great-nephew, Jacob Shumaker.
