Rae Jean, we were so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. Dave was full of life and humor; he will truly be missed. Many enjoyable thoughts of spending time with you and Dave at Alpaca Shows and Dave joking with Nathan. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of your family. Rest in peace Dave.

Rea,
Sorry I didn’t get to make it to Dave’s visitation. I had several obligations I couldn’t get out of.
However I did want to express my condolences and relate a story about Dave for everyone.

Several years ago at the second Sparta state shoot I was on a short posse. That is we had nine people on our posse. It was getting near the end of the second day and we were all spent because you never get a break on a posse of that size. Also as some of us may remember the first two years down in Sparta it was hot like over 100 F in the sun. Anyway Dave and his posse had finished up and they were walking by on their way to some much needed shade when he passed by. I think it might have been about the time I poured a bottle of water on my head and steam rolled off. He looked over and said “you guys need a little help?” At this point I was almost beyond words with fatigue. You see I was on a short posse with two new shooters and several older shooters. Tame Bill and myself were the youngest of the lot. Therefore we had been timing, picking up brass and resetting targets for two days and there just wasn’t much left and we still had two stages to go. So of course my answer was yes. Dave took the timer out of my hand and progressed to run us through the better part of two hot stages. When we finished the second stage I was finally cool enough to think straight and I tanked Dave and the other members of his posse he had dragged with him and all he had to say in response was “It really looked like you guys could use some help, and I know you would have done the same if I needed it.”

So for everyone that didn’t know Dave that was the kind of guy he was and he was a great partner to shoot with. So good luck to you Dave where ever you are.

We are so very, very sorry, RaeJean for your loss. We always loved shooting with both of you and he will be greatly missed by both of us. I always knew where he was in the crowd by looking for the yellow shirt! He was one super guy to have as a friend. Thinking of you and sending prayers. Love you!

We are so sorry for your loss. Have thought of you and Dave often and prayed for you both. Went through this with my (Sandy) mom and I know something of how hard it has been. Just think of him in a better place and being whole again in Gods embrace.

Rae Jean, I was so sorry to read of Dave's passing. I have no doubt that you gave him the best of care. It's funny how something like this can take your mind back over 50 years to when we were all so young........I remember going to visit you at Black Hawk park. Oh, the things we do for love. I admired you so much for your dedication! My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dave was the posse leader for my group many times at the Fall Roundup. He made that match the most enjoyable of the year. I will look forward to seeing him again in the Great Roundup in Heaven.
God Bless you Dave. You will long be remembered by your cowboy friends.

Dave was one of the greatest guys I ever had the pleasure of knowing. Dave was one of the few people who took the time to help me threw all of the nuances of Cowboy shooting when I first started. Offering advice, equipment, or a witty quip. He was always there to help the new guys, and sometimes "hassle" the more seasoned shooters. Dave also was very helpful with both of my parents when they became active in SASS. Always willing to chat or joke around, but always willing to help out anyone who needed it. Dave you will be sorely missed.
