My wife and I knew Jim in the late 70s when we worked at the Dollar Saver in Jacksonville. He was a mentor, a friend and had a kind soul. He also was a pretty good poker player.

About a week ago my wife wondered where/how he was, and we got our answer in today's newspaper: He's with his Father in heaven. Rest in the peace of eternity, Jim.

Steve,
Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so glad that someone from the Dollar Saver was able to see his obituary. Please pass on to others of his passing, as he spent a big part of his life in Jacksonville.
My Dad fell ill several years back and moving him to Illinois was an honor for me. One of our worst winters was his first one here and he was really missing the warmth of Florida then, but during his life here we shared many good times and a lot of laughter. During this difficult time, I look to those good times.
Also, it's special to know that he touched your life as a mentor. I think he had that affect on several people, as I am finding that out since his passing.
My best to you and your wife.
Sincerely,
Sue Conroy

I worked with your Dad for a number of years at the Super Shopper/ Shopping Guide. I think of him every time, which is often, that about a question about grammar, or punctuation in publishing arises. Yes, he was a mentor.
Today, coming out of a cold spell here in Jacksonville, I thought of his telling how cold it was in the AF when he was stationed out in the middle of nowhere in Maine. He was a good story teller from time to time.
That got me thinking about him, and searching brought me to learn of his passing. A good old friend on earth is gone, and I'm sad for that, but I'm happy to know he's there in Heaven. He was a good man. My belated condolences to your family.

My dad was an amazing man and inspiration to my growth as a young man. Friends and family know the artistic talent that he worked with oils and a brush. His gift as magician equally mesmerized us as kids and the grandkids that followed. The magic was his special gift, but his artistic abilities rubbed off on me and many grandkids. Dad was career Air Force, and that dedication to country and service left it's "Mark" too. I didn't make 21 years like Dad, but I proudly served four years and even toured in Puerto Rico while my parents were stationed there...What a blessing. So, Dad was a major influence in me becoming a man with a loving father to guide me....
