Joan Y. (Washburn) Williams

Joan Y. Williams, 86, of Rock Island, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.  Memorial services for Joan will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2017 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 4th Ave. E., Milan.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.  Inurnment will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  Memorials may be made in care of the Alzheimer's Association or Hope Creek Care Center.

Joan Yvonne Washburn was born on January 31, 1931 in Rock Island, a daughter of Beryl E. and Anna G. (Orth) Washburn.  She graduated from St. Joseph High School, Rock Island in 1948 and married Joe M. Williams, Jr. on September 1, 1951, in Morrison, IL.  Joe passed away on July 9, 2016; they would have been married 65 years.  Joan worked for several businesses, most recently as an office clerk, at  McCabe's Dept. store, Rock Island, from 1976-1984,  and she was a loving wife and mother to her husband and children.  She was very proud of her children and served in several roles while they were in school.  She was past president of the PTA, and was made an Honorary Life Member of the Illinois PTA at Eugene Field school, Rock Island, and a cub scout den mother.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gary D. Williams, E. Moline, Terry B. Williams, Moline; a daughter, Diana J. Williams, Rock Island; grandchildren, Wendy Weeks, Sugarland, TX, Teresa (Chuck) Rosenbaum, Sugarland, TX, Jessica Williams, Davenport, IA,  Amber Williams, Iowa and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her parents; daughter, Caroline D. Williams and sisters, Anna Marie Washburn, Carole Diane Kehl, Joyce LaVaun Carr, and Wanda LaRue Wallace.

The Family wishes to thank Unity-Point/Trinity Hospital, Rock Island, Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, and Hospice Compassus, Moline. A very special thank you to Teasha, Goundo, and Vivian; also the entire staff of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, especially Patrick. You all cared for Joan with compassion and respect. We are eternally grateful.
