Ronald E. Derrer, 78, of rural Milan, formerly of Mt. Carroll, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at his home. A funeral service celebrating his life  will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Friday, May 27) at the Wheelan - Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 4th Ave. E., Milan.  Per Ronald's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following the services.  Private inurnment will take place at a later date in Chapel Grove Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

Ronald was born on September 3, 1937 in Stephenson Co., Illinois to Russell and Leonore Weidman Derrer.  He graduated from Carroll High School and served in the U.S. Army, primarily in Korea.  He was then united in marriage to Ellen Eberle on November 23, 1958.  He and his wife first farmed with his parents, East of Mt. Carroll.  He was the 3rd generation of raising, milking and showing Registered Holstein cattle.  After selling the dairy herd, he became a beef and crop farmer.  Ronald retired from farming in 2002 and moved to Milan to be closer to his beloved family.  He especially enjoyed watching his granddaughter in her many activities.  Ron's greatest love was making memories with his children and granddaughter.  He and his wife traveled to almost all 50 states and 8 other countries to experience the beautiful world.

Ron was a member of the Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon.  He was also a member of the Rock Island Country Farm Bureau.  Ron loved his church and greatly enjoyed being with his coffee friends at the Reynolds Feed Store, McDonalds and the Friday night group.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; daughter and son-in-law, Ronda (Dan) Brown of Rockford; son and daughter-in-law, Rod (Julie) Derrer  and granddaughter, Rylee Marie Derrer, all of Milan. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
